Writing is like...

...playing with dolls--only there are no dolls. There are characters in my head and I manipulate them while writing down the scenes.

At least, that's the way I see it.

  2. I hadn't thought about dolls similar to characters, but you are right. I didn't play with dolls as a child. I read books. My imagination lived with the people in the book. I loved them, felt sorry for them, and when I finished reading, I was sad. Now that I write books, I feel the same way.

  3. Gay,

With my two younger sisters, playing with dolls was a daily activity. I read books, too, and came from a very creative family.

    Imagination is fun.

I am not usually sad when I finish reading or writing a book because I can make up a whole happy future for the characters--as long as the book is a romance with a happy ending.

Unhappy endings are depressing. I avoid those.
